Ah, that is one smart little girl already making cultural commentary on food.

I'd have to tell her (if I ever met her) that even before Paula Deen loved butter children had a hankering for it. I remember being five or six years old also, looking into the fridge all by myself (even without Momma and Daddy holding a videocamera at me while asking leading questions to elicit the best performance for You Tube!) to sneak out a chunk of butter to eat all by itself. It was the perfect foil to the half-slice of raw bacon and the teaspoonful of Heinz ketchup that could also be self-importantly gathered from the glowing chilly shelves - a rather Roald Dahl-ish five-year-old-child's moment of gourmandism and self-sufficiency.

Is there a site for "Paula-Deen-ism's" yet? If not, there should be. She has entered into the collective mind of the culture in a stupendously charming way.

(Though actually, food maven or not, one can not be said to have truly "arrived" till they have been parodied on South Park, bien sur.)

I try to adhere to my Mother's admonishment that "if you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all.", but I just can't handle Paula Deen!

And this is from a guy who watchs Emeril and RR! (and South Park!)

If I were you I'd keep a close watch on those guys, SB - your grandson and your Pomeranian.

It sounds to me as if they have been switching the television channel to Paula Deen and her buttery ways whilst you are in the kitchen slaving over making meatloaf, then when you come out they quickly change it back and smile at you like little angels.

I blame the Pomeranian. Mischievious little cuties they are.

God knows what those two will be up to next. Bearnaise sauce perhaps.
