Seriously Delicious Giveaway: Zingerman's Gift Certificate

20071203zingermans.pngI don't know about you, but this time of year my mailbox is full of food catalogs offering me food I don't really want. There are a few exceptions, of course, and Zingerman's is certainly one of them. The Zingerman's Catalogue is full of honest food, delicious things that the company makes, or stuff that Zingerman's partners Ari Weinzweig and Mo Frechette have discovered in their far-flung travels.

Stuff they make includes terrific bread, baked goods, and cheese. Carefully chosen olive oils, condiments, vinegars, and various sausages, the stuff of many a serious eater's dream, come from small artisanal producers all over the world. So today's Seriously Delicious Holiday giveaway, a $50 Zingerman's Catalogue gift certificate, is something every serious eater will covet.

To win this passport to delicious food from around the world and from Ann Arbor, Michigan, just leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite cheese is.

You have until noon ET tomorrow (December 30) to enter. One winner will be chosen at random from among the commenters. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply. Contest winners are limited to residents of the continental U.S.

If you don't win, here's a secret code to get 10 percent off any food you buy at Zingerman's Mail Order by December 31, 2007. Enter 27PC1203 when you check out online or ring them at 888-636-8162. The nice folks there will give you 10 percent off all the food (offer doesn't include shipping, gift certificates, or already-discounted items).

currently Tillamook Sharp Cheddar, and Robusto from Whole Foods.

cheese is such a wonderful thing its hard to have a "favorite", but there is one that sticks out for its multiple purposes... Beecher's Flagship.

Manchego, pecorino or Stilton - depending on the day!

I think... a good chevre. Or something I've never heard of recommended by the cheese counter guys at Fairway.

My favorite is a blue cheese like Stilton - nice and tangy.

Chevre, gorgonzola, and Humboldt Fog.

Btw, my total NON-foodie friend just casually emailed to say "My boss sent me this nice gift box of fresh bakery breads (complete with freezing and reheating instructions)." So of course I had to ask where it was from. Turns out it's...ZINGERMANS! Needless to say, this is completely unfair. This is a guy who still eats ham and cheese on Wonder bread (at his desk) for lunch. He's in his 40s. And now he's got ZINGERMANS in his house!! Snif...

A good sharp cheddar. Or really fresh mozzarella from the cheese stand at the farmer's market during the summer.

Brie and every goat cheese I've ever tried.

good parm, with stilton bringing up the rear.

currently obsessed with cheddar rolled in coffee - "barely buzzed" from Utah. Serve with plain water crackers and coffee blossom honey.....mmm!

My favorite cheese is Cypress Grove's Humboldt Fog. It's a great goat cheese with a line if blue gray ash running through the center, with a creaminess towards the rind. I'm from Mississippi, and in the south, as you all know, College football and in-state rivalry is taught at birth. Well, being an Ole Miss girl, it has been burned in my hiney the loathing of our rival, Miss. State. So when I say I Loooove their MS. State Edam cheese, you know I must mean it!

The best is sharp cheddar, in all configurations and from most any cheese maker. Shredded on burritos or just eaten by itself, can't be beat.

My favorite cheese varies from week to week, sometimes day to day.
For the most part though, I'm usually very happy with a gorgonzola dolce at the correct stage of ripeness.
