Besides that, it's gotta be stacked about at least a half-inch thick on rye with provolone or meunster, some fresh lettuce, chopped green or black olives, and plenty of horseradish mustard, all washed down with a pint of Guinness.

A quality ham on a quality bread is best without any condiments whatever. If the bread is only ordinary I might melt some Swiss cheese on the sandwich and eat it with a little Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard.

Leftover holiday ham (with a really good crispy glaze around the edges), my very "best" mayo, the grainiest mustard I can find (or if i don't have that...Colemans hot mustard made from the powder) ...on toasted sourdough or rye bread...with a cold beer to wash it all down. No pickles, but chips on the side always add to the experience!

I love spiral cut honey ham leftover from the holiay supper the night before. Put it on a croissant with swiss cheese, iceburg lettuce, and sliced tomato with mustard and mayo - oh and I cannot forget a big dill pickle on the side - my mouth is watering thinking about it!!!!!!!

A ham sandwich is just a sandwich unless it includes cheese (Swiss or Provolone or a very sharp Cheddar), a swipe of mustard on one side of a slice of sourdough bread; a little mayo on the other; crispy lettuce, a salted tomato slice and a sprinkling of pepper overall. Then a ham sandwich is a feast!

It depends on the ham.

A smoked ham might see a little mayo and veggies and some cheese. A plainer ham might only need a little butter and Maldon sea salt to make it perfect. A salted ham, like country or smithfield ham, is perfect on grilled Sally Lunn bread (Try this for breakfast - grilled Sally Lunn bread, smithfield ham, a crab cake, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. It's amazing). A sugar-glazed ham would require a tart cheese like sharp chedder or high-quality swiss. The list just goes on and on.

mmmmmmm, ham. Good bread is a must, as is a good mustard and mayo. And cheese, of course. Depending on my mood, it could be a nice baby swiss, or a cheddar, or a muenster or provolone. MMmmm...

Start off with toasted, seedless rye. Spread on a thin layer of dijon mustard. Place a thin layer of fried onions on the mustard. Then a layer of bacon. Then a thin layer of leaf lettuce. Follow that with the ham, thinly sliced (because the real flavor is in the surface area) and repeat the above steps backwards until you place the final slice of toasted rye on top. Then slice in half, add a half-sour pickle from a pickle joint on the Lower East Side of NYC and we're all set.

hmm, either a grilled ham and cheese with a dab of mustard on white or sourdough bread, or a cold ham sandwich on a french roll with garlic mayo, sliced tomato, pickle chips, lettuce, mustard, and diced peprocinis with a pickle spear on the side. Milk, beer, tomato soup, or diet coke to drink, depending on the weather and my mood.
