Win Your Thanksgiving Turkey!

Do you know where you're getting your turkey this year? Not yet? Then we've got a contest for you! The good folks at D'Artagnan are providing us with a turkey a day to give away to one lucky Serious Eats reader from today until tomorrow (Nov. 18).*

20071109dartagnan.pngD'Artagnan is a purveyor of many things delicious—from pâtés to sausages, foie gras to wild mushrooms, game meat to truffles. But what we're especially interested in right now is their turkey.

D'Artagnan's certified organic birds are fed organic grains and pure spring water—no protein supplements, added poultry or fish byproducts, pesticides or herbicides. Additionally no antibiotics, no growth hormones. The result is a poultry with great flavor, tenderness, and a 25 percent lower fat content than standard commercially raised turkey.

We will be giving away 12- to 14-pound organic free-range birds for the duration of the contest. Contest open only to participants in the continental U.S.

Win a Turkey

To enter to win, just answer the following question in the comments below:

What's your favorite side dish?

One (1) winner will be chosen at random from among the commenters. Feel free to enter every day, but you may win only once during the lifetime of the contest. Comments for this entry will be open until noon ET tomorrow (Nov. 18). The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.

*Sorry, but we have to limit shipping to the continental U.S. Birds will be shipped from D'Artagnan no later than Monday, November 19.

Stuffing. Wait...sweet potato casserole. It's a toss up!

Green bean casserole... is that wrong?

This is so tough! Sweet potatoes? Stuffing? Steamed vegetables? All of the above plus the turkey and the pumpkin pie make Thanksgiving my favorite holiday!

Stuffing, cooked inside the turkey.

Mashed potatoes and gravy...for days. Or I really also love orange jell-o salad.

I'm southern, so definitely candied yams.

Sweet potatoes---but baked in jackets with butter, salt and pepper. Marshmallows and maple syrup, etc.----yech.

stuffing...hmmm mashed potatoes..... no i can get those all year.... sweet potato casserole..... ahhh!!!! i love them all

potatoes, mashed, smashed, boiled, or whatever

Mashed Potatoes with butter and cream, and a little more butter on top. It may not be good for the heart, but it's definitely good for the soul.

Looks like stuffing is winning by a wide margin. I love it too; all that sage and celery is great. I also like it when it has the giblets, neck meat, oysters or mushrooms, although I'm not really a fan of cornbread stuffing.

stuffing and gravy

Dressing and gravy.

Gran's Oyster Gratin. Oysters, cream, crumbs, butter, onion - how could you go wrong?

cranberries!

Corn casserole.

All of them. I have been known to forego the turkey because it took up space on my plate that could be devoted to more side dishes.

Stuffing or Mashed Potatoes is a toss up

mmmm stuffing. Green bean casserole is a close 2nd.

actually we have asparagus as an unconventional side dish and I love it!

Sweet potato marshmallow casserole.

sausage and cornbread stuffing

definately my mom's baked butternut squash and sweet and sour red cabbage. the colors of those two side dishes on the plate make it the most beautiful meal!

Scalloped oysters.

Stuffing covered with gravy. It's all about the gravy.

Creamed onions. Mmmmm.

Cornbread stuffing. And cranberry sauce, if that's considered a side.

Sweet potatoes casserole, made with cream and brandy and a little orange zest. With a caramelized apples topper with a crisp topping just for good measure.

mmmmm stuffing

Is stuffing a side dish? Hmm, maybe it's the brussels sprouts. Or the cranberry relish (raw cranberries and orange peels are the main ingredients). I think it's the total package - the turkey plus everything else. Boy do I love this holiday!

Sausage stuffing!

lets go with something different and say baked potatoes

Stir fried green beans with roasted walnuts and potato "gratinee".

hmmmm I guess I will go with stuffing.

Jellied cranberry sauce is my favorite, although for some reason I don't really care for whole cranberries.

Mashed potatoes

broccolini stir fried in olive oil with garlic

Hrm, this sort of depends on where we're eating and who did the cooking. If we're at my grandmother's then it's definitely the cheddar broccoli rice casserole my cousin makes. If it's just the immediate family then it's mom's carrot-ginger soup. If it's just my partner and I then it's my home-canned jellied cranberry sauce (aka cranberry jam). If it's my partner's family then it's the cranberry relish. It really depends. I also have a soft spot for mashed potatos and for stuffing, but those aren't thanksgiving-specific, at least to me.

tostones with garlic oil and ketchup on the side

cornbread dressing

Stuffing. Specifically, cornbread, sage, and sausage stuffing. I've even made it when I haven't to stuff it into.

Mac & Cheese

...cook, chef, culinary sponge, traveler, volunteer, missionary.
tyronebcookin

STUFFING! My husband makes the best. It's one of the reasons I married him. Ok, maybe it's just a fringe benefit...

The classic stuffing!

Gravy, and stuffing, and mashed potatoes!

Mine would be oyster/cornbread dressing with plenty of giblet gravy!

Mmmm... green beans bundled and wrapped in bacon with a brown sugar sauce.

Stuffing dripping with gravy.

side dish is so patronizing. pumpkin pie is rad btw.

Collard greens

brussels sprouts...

sweet potatoes baked w/ butter and maple syrup and topped w/ pecans

My daughters recipe.......sweet potato casserole with gingersnap topping !!!!

stuffing cooked inside the turkey with a little gravy on it

it's a tie between the stuffing and mashed sweet potatoes.

Butternut squash.

Just one? Impossible. OK, if I had to choose, stuffing from inside the bird, followed closely by candied praline yams.

most assuredly, stuffing!

Inside the bird stuffing, with buttery mashed taters running a close second. Thanksgiving is all about the carbs!

mashed potatoes and gravy

sweet potatoes, particularly roasted sweet potatoes w/ a bacon vinagrette.

Is the cranberry dipping sauce considered a "side dish"?

well, ok then. I happen to be a fan of the stuffed artichokes. ;o)

Stuffing. With gravy. And a bit of cranberry sauce and turkey on the fork. (I know turkey's not a side dish, but that's how it's best.)

This question is downright cruel. Why would you make me choose?

Fine. Stuffing. Are you happy now? ARE YOU?

mashed potatos with tons of buttery goodness.

butternut squash gallette

mashed potatoes and gravy!

Stuffing. Unless I'm allowed to call the turkey my favourite side dish to the stuffing.

stuffing...no geen bean casserole...no sweet potato casserole..no cranberry sauce...........actually like 'em all!

Dressing, with sweet potatoes coming in at a close second.

dauphinois potatoes, with some caramelized onions thrown in there for good measure.

Brussels sprouts - sliced in half, sauteed in lots of butter until they're a bit browned, then finished with whole grain dijon and white wine. So delicious!!!

Stuffing and gravy.

italian sausage and bread stuffing

mashed potatoes with lots of gravy!

slow roasted garlic mashed potatoes

Roasted squash

furit salad made with real whipping cream

Candied sweet potatos. So good.

Sweet potato casserole (with all of the silly marshmallows and brown sugar and nutmeg).

Green beans with lemon and hazelnuts.

ICE. Jack Daniels&Coke Zero

Turkey *is* the side dish. We make a spinach cream cheese casserole thing that's the main dish for me.

I LOVE squash, mashed with gravy or butter on top...hands down the best side dish.

Stuffing and mashed squash. It's not a toss up - I mix them together.

It used to be chestnut-mushroom stuffing. Now, it's Jacques Pepin's butternut squash gratin-- just squash, 1.5c cream, and a sprinkling of parmesan. It's divine.

Cornbread-apple stuffing

homemade cranberry relish: cranberries, chopped up whole clementine, very little sugar, splash of Grand Marnier

Cornbread stuffing with cranberry relish.

drunken sweet potatoes.....mashed sweet potatoes with a streusel topping and a healthy splash of bourbon in the potatoes.

My mom's homemade noodles

Roast turkey with gravy

My favorite is a shitake mushroom bread pudding recipe from an old NY Times Sunday magazine section. It's fabulous!

Cornbread dressing.

So hard to choose. But probably stuffing.

mmm...those all sound so good...

yeah, it's not exactly, gourmet, but green bean casserole has always been my favorite.

My invention of cranberry-apple sauce with fresh mandarin oranges
chopped in. Yum to you!

stuffing. or my homemade rolls.

It's gotta be the dressing.. the savory flavors complement the bird so nicely. It's really a package deal. Can't have one without the other.

sweet potato muffins! I love them so much I made them two days ago becuase I couldn't wait until Thanksgiving... although stuffing with gravy is a really close second

green beans

grandma's cranberry relish - can't have Thanksgiving without it!

stuffing! it is, i'd say, a borderline obsession.

Press the back of my dinner spoon into my mountain of mashed potatoes and fill with turkey gravy.

Sweet potato casserole (roasted, buttered w/brown sugar and marshmallows on top). I'm not allowed to fancy up the recipe or I'll hear the wrath of the family.

It's the cranberry relish. MMMMM.

It has to be mashed potatoes. Even if NOT Thanksgiving , if I eat turkey , mashed potatoes MUST be nearby .

vodka cranberry.

Cranberry ANYTHING!

100% stuffing!

mashed potatoes w/ gravy! YUMMY :)

Anything with Mushrooms and/or brussel sprouts.

stuffing with oysters
