Emeril Leaves Food Network

From mediabistro.com: "Contract negotiations between Emeril and parent corporation Scripps have broken down. Lagasse is leaving the Food Network as a result and the last day of production for Emeril Live will be on December 11." [Update: Emeril not leaving Food Network]

Correction

Food Network reps have emailed to clarify the situation:

There were inaccuracies in the post about Emeril Lagasse in today's Fish Bowl blog. Emeril is not leaving the network, Essence of Emeril will continue production and we will pursue specials and other opportunities in the future.

Emeril Live has been an incredible journey and a great collaboration between Emeril Lagasse and Food Network for over ten years. Emeril has been the cornerstone of Food Network's success and helped pave the way for chefs on TV. The show has hit numerous television milestones. Lagasse was the first chef to have food consumed in space when he created recipes for the astronauts at International Space Station, he redesigned and invigorated the cafeteria at Children's Storefront in Harlem, cooked for the troops on military bases, firemen at firehouses, and more.

Food Network and Emeril look forward to continuing our long partnership and Emeril remains an integral part of the Food Network family.

I think a "wait and see" period should be in order because of this part of the latter part of the article: "Lagasse's defection follows Mario Batali's exit back in September." Ed himself dispoved this about Chef Mario back when it happened. So, just waiting for the other shoe to drop here, i.e., waiting for someone to come through with verified info.

I agree that a wait and see period should go in effect ... but this would be so great in my opinion... a small step in the right direction.

Emeril has been there since 1993. I predicted this. The constant nightly rehash of Emeril has become tired. I think he should go to Fine Living and have a weekly show or specials and give himself a break. Tuschman and company are going eradicate all chefs of any quality and it has already begun.

Anyone know the status of Alton Brown's negotiations for "Good Eats"? Last I heard he & FN hadn't reached an agreement but that was back in the summertime.

[sarcasm] Yeah, totally great, this frees up some prime time slots for more Sandra Lee, Rachael Ray, and hopefully Amy "the next door gourmet" will get a show too! Yayyyy! [/sarcasm]

Ok, so it's just Live that's closing up shop. That would make more sense since he's actually better and more informative on Essence.

Sometimes, ya' gotta pull the string a couple more times to figure out what's really being said.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Rachel Live! and more Dean family specials.

The most annoying thing on television is when Emeril says the word "garlic" and everyone in the audience applauds and screams.

I know what you mean; and he pronounces it with his left-over New England accent: "gaaalik!" His silliness is most annoying; and what's with the musical entertainment. Is this a food show or a music variety show? Note to Emeril: shut up and cook!

Essence of Emeril is my favorite cooking show on FN. He makes great recipes and teaches really fantastic techniques. I run for the remote when his "Live" show comes on. It's purely awful. I hope Essence stays on!!!! They could dump most of their programming and I could care less. Please keep a real chef?

I like Tyler's Ultimate, Barefoot Contessa and Paula Deen in her kitchen. Otherwise, I go to PBS for real cooking shows like America's Test Kitchen, Jacques Pepin, Lidia, Everyday Cooking.

He has been looking so tired and worn out lately; maybe he needs the break.
