Want it? Not so much! All that bacon must make the skin flabby and the only part of a roasted turkey worth eating is the crispy skin! And the gravy, over lumpy mashed potatoes, but that's not really part of the turkey, is it?
The best turkey I ever had was a boneless, skinless turkey breast that was stuffed inside a duck, with some leeks and carrots and herbs. Sort of a reverse turducken ... My brother made it years and years before the turducken craze. It was great -- the duck kept the turkey from drying out and the dark duck meat was able to withstand the time it took to cook the turkey through.

wrong about flabby skin for chow's version, here's why: the skin is crisped up before the bacon is put on, so not only do you get crispy skin, but you get crispy bacon AND meat will be slightly baconesque and moist AND the gravy, too, for the taters has that extra something special.

Yes, this is kind of gross...but I'll bet that if you just close your eyes and chew, it tastes pretty good. I'll admit it.

It used to be a tradition to make this in my house. Every Christmas my mom would make it. It's incredible, very very tasty!!

My mother and grandmother always put three or four pieces of bacon on top of the turkey when roasting it.

This is the best way to oven cook a turkey. I do it whith my thanxgivng and X-mas birds. Although I don't use that much bacon it isn't needed. 2-4 strips on the breasteses and 1 each on the drums. Cuz these are the parts that dry out the most. It is not "flabby" it is self based deliciousness and the bacon adds to the flavour of the bird. The gravy is wicked awesome.
