Photo of the Day: Custom Cake From Wal-Mart

Best Wishes Suzanne
Under Neat that
We will Miss you

Huh?

He told them to write: "Best Wishes Suzanne" and underneath that write "We Will Miss You."

That's what miscommunication with the cake decorators at Wal-Mart will get you.

This will have me laughing for days!

first mistake:

You bought a cake at Wal-mart.

"first mistake: You bought a cake at Wal-mart."

Yeah, that's a good half-dozen mistakes at once.

OMG, that's AWESOME. Everyone will certainly be talking about that cake!

At least it wasn't written in the vernacular as "under neat dat". :)
(File under "small things to be grateful for".)

But really I'm not sure it's the writing mistake that bothers me most. More than that I keep looking at the color scheme and going "Blech. Blech."

Gee, Karen...you have something against BROWN frosting?!?

Nope. It's that raucous combination of golds and oranges (ha ha almost typed "organs" there instead of oranges) that is supposed to infer the autumnal savor, interspersed with gorpy puke green, that disturbs me.

Oh CNN's Wolf Blitzer could do so much with this!!!

OMG that is too funny. I hope the cake atleast tasted good.

I see these online about 4 times a year.
My favorite one was when I was in catholic schools we ordered a cake for a leaving priest. It came back from the bakery with this.
Good Luck Favor Cappy Tano

It was supposed to say Good Luck Father Capitano
We promptly drove it back and had the icing altered.

Everytime I see someone writing on a cake I say to myself Favor Cappy Tano.

So, what kind of recourse does the consumer have in a situation like this.

The consumer has two choices - they can seek recourse by immediately noticing that the cake has gotten wierded out and ask to have it corrected right then and there. It is easy enough to do and should not take more than five or ten minutes in any bakery no matter how busy or what the skill level of the employees.

Or (and I think this is the better choice but then I like silliness in life in general) they can keep the cake, take a photo of it, and have a great story to tell. :)

I still advise against eating any frosting in that color scheme, though.

We went to costco on Sat and the icing colors on the costco sheet cakes were freaky. It seems that black is now a food coloring for even the common folk. Used to be just about 8 icing colors for the commoners but now they have discovered black and purple and orange all together on one cake. Ah halloween. Makes me want to break out the bundt cake pan and make an orange pumpkin cake like I used to do when I was a kid.

A "consumer" who needs "recourse" in a "situation" like this needs to get a sense of humor?

Ahhh, yes, another example of the importance of COMMUNICATION! It's not just for cornering husbands.

Last week was my birthday. I'm old enough not to care too much about having another one, but my just-turned-four-year-old grandson, Zack, feels he's become an expert on the subject, having celebrated his own, his little sister's and his mom's all in the past month.

While he'll often help me bake cake, and I'd be more than happy to make my own, he feels birthday cakes should come from the store. That's probably because of the fancy frosting, which is his favorite part.

He went with grandma to pick out a cake for me, and although, or perhaps because, he can't read and write, he insisted the inscription should read "Happy Birthday Cake".

So it did, and so it was.
