John Mariani's Best New Restaurants List in Esquire, as always, is annoying, but it's hard to quarrel with because he eats out at more places than most.

I was really disappointed in the list this year. I just read it on the plane the other day and I thought to myself, either it's been a very boring year for new restaurants, or this piece has missed something exciting.

i've eaten at catalan here in houston, and the things he likes about it are spot on. it's a delight every time i eat there.

i agree. i need to find a spot for my office to have our holiday party in nyc. last year our list was too long, this year i can't think of anywhere to go that is new and exciting.
