tfc-gelato.jpg

Thanks to The Futures Channel, a website of educational videos for young students that illustrate how science and math are applied to real life careers, you can go behind the scenes of the Ciao Bella Gelato factory. By watching Ice Cream the Italian Way you can witness the pouring of large buckets of gelato batter into giant freezing vats and learn about the science and management behind running a major gelato company.

Yes! Ciao Bella is the best gelato created commercially. In fact I have the 5 quart size of their Tahitian Vanilla! And they have one of the best Pistachio gelatos I have ever tasted!

Ciao Bella is totally stalking me! I lived like a block away from the Los Angeles Ciao Bella factory over the summer. Also, there is one literally across the street from my dorm. If I am in my friend's room you can actually look out of his window and see what flavors they have. Basically I go there every day. There was a point sophomore year when I was on a first name basis with all the employees and I knew I had a problem. I wasn't living in the same dorm last year but now I am back and so is my Ciao Bella addiction.

I mean I guess there are worse things to have stalking you than purveyors of delicious gelato and sorbet (to be honest their sorbet might even be better than their gelato), although my wallet and waist-size might disagree.

Veron: I haven't had their pistachio in the pint, but I had it at one of their stores and it wasn't so...happiness inducing. :( Hm. But I LOVE their fresh mint! I recall the hazelnut being good too.

chasgoose: Are they stalking you or are you stalking them?

Hmmmm.

Yes, the first name basis thing tends to be a sign of addiction. ;)

Btw this is Charlie.

It's totally not my fault. If I want on-campus housing I am locked into the same dorm for all four years (except last year when they were renovating my dorm and I lived in temporary apartments). THEY opened my sophomore year, I was just minding my business one day when I was going to class and I saw a sign that said "Free Scoop of Gelato." Being me I was like hell yes, not knowing that this Ciao Bella was like delicious scoops of crack. A month later my trash can was literally 90% composed of used Ciao Bella cups (and that is not even counting the ones that I finished on the minute walk between my bedroom and Ciao Bella).

This summer as I was driving to my apartment in LA, I noticed a truck with a very familiar logo and sure enough it was parked at the Ciao Bella factory for the area. Thankfully I don't think they actually serve gelato there because otherwise I would have had a major problem.

The worst part is that Ciao Bella is not even the best gelato I have had (Arlecchino Gelateria in Phoenix would have to take that prize as I have never been to Italy), but I just can't stop.

Ha Ha this is funny. Ciao Bella uses a powder base. So, they just add the flavors. I know this because I know some one who works for the company they order from.
I tried their gelato for the first time the other day. It was so artificial and dry. If you want some good gelato look for "Gelato Di Babbo". This girl makes it all by hand and it is packaged for the supermarket, in pints. I think she has a myspace page.
