If Robyn were writing this, I believe her first word would be, "CHOMP!" Graham Holliday aka Noodlepie has declared this banh mi thit nuong from a stall on Nguyen Trai street in Saigon the best sandwich in the world and by the looks of it, I am inclined to agree.

Graham MOVE BACK TO SAIGON!!!! I MISS NOODLEPIE!

I would have to agree, and while I did not get a picture of it, I did recently write about my own run-in with a banh mi on my own poorly-read food blog. Now, I had my banh mi in Pittsburgh's Strip District, and although it was served to me by the proprietors of a Vietnamese restaurant, I suspect it may not have been as good as this one. Nevertheless, it was incredible!

And what a photo!!!!!!!!

There is a Vietnamese place here in Albuquerque - Cafe Trang - that makes the best sandwiches I've ever had. They look very similar to that one, with headcheese, etc. (A good grilled Rueben is up there too, but really doesn't fit in the same category.)

oh gosh .. that looks so good. I've never had banh mi before, but plan to remedy that soon, though I don't think I'll find one as great as the one in this picture.

Oh my.... it looks just like the banh mi I'd get from Footscray in Melbourne, Aust. The one with lines that meander round the block come lunch time, even thought there are at least 7 other banh mi shops in the area. I can already feel the thin, crisp crust shattering beneath my teeth.

Yum... banh mi is the best!

@Kbear919 Funny innit, I live in a great gastronomic region in France now and I absolutely love the food, but I'm just not quite as enthused by it as I was in Vietnam... I do live an amazing market though...

Alas, I won't be moving back to Saigon, but I may be visiting. And looking at that sarnie again, I can remember the motorbike fumes, dink dink dink of building going on, car horns and shouting. You need that kinda backdrop for a sarnie like this. These things live on the street you know :)
