On the Contrary: Batali Shooting Two 'Iron Chef' Shows Next Week
I just talked to Mario Batali, and he tells me that what's reported in the New York Post about his leaving Iron Chef America is incorrect and that he's actually shooting two episodes of the show next week.

Cool! Can't wait to see who he's up against. I'll keep ICA on the radar. Nothing else on Food Network is worth watching.

Did Mr. Batali comment on the status of the "Molto Mario" show?

I heard that Jose Garces (of Philadelphia's Amada and Tinto) is filming an Iron Chef episode next week, maybe he's battling Batali.

I agree. The Food Network has deteriorated seriously in terms of the quality of its programs and the quality of instruction in its programs. I don't like that Alton Brown is barely found on the FN anymore, so let's hope that Iron Chef will give us something good!

I agree that the Food Network has gone downhill, but I don't think you can say that Alton Brown can't be found. Good Eats was moved to 8pm and also shows at 11pm. Feasting on Asphalt has been all over the network the last few weeks and Iron Chef America gets a fair bit of air time, too. In fact, I'd say Alton Brown has become the face of the Food Network more than anyone else right now. Which is a good thing, since those three shows are also pretty much all I watch on FoodTv anymore.

Maybe we'll have to go back to watching the public television cooking shows, which may have lower production values and little in the way of studio orchestras but certainly offer plenty of instruction.
And isn't Mario to do a PBS show with Gwyneth Paltrow where they explore Spain? Or did I imagine reading that blurb?

Good to hear he's still at least on ICA. But my low opinion of the FN is unchanged. FHFS, I hope you are being sarcastic about the importance of production values... If by production values you mean lack of Giada-esque cleavage, then I agree. Otherwise, PBS is the clear winner in terms of quality both of production and content.

Last night's ICA with Batali was a tour de force. It took my breath away and I am not even an Italian food fanatic nor am I the sort to get weak in the knees for celeb chefs (celeb anything really). On top of this, I am not a parmesan fan AT ALL but I was honestly drooling toward the end.
It was so good I was sort of fearful toward the end that it was a "swan song", Batali's parting shot at the mediocrity of FN. I wonder if I am the only one that feels this way.
Batali and Flay on ICA repeatedly force me to respect their food (I loathe their celebrity and ego), its that good.
Alton Brown is jumping the shark with this latest "Feasting", sad thing that is. Without AB and Batali, there is Flay and that is just not much at all (especially considering that its just Flay on ICA .. Flay on throwdown makes my skin crawl).
Cat Cora? Her ineptitude makes me weep.
Morimoto? Where the heck is he anyways? When Morimoto is on it only serves to make me miss ICJ SO SO much that its hard to watch ICA at all.
Batali is seriously keystone to FN in the authenticity department but is it really a surprise he is taking his toys home?
