Farmers' Markets Versus Big Box Grocery

Sam of Becks & Posh did some comparison shopping in the hopes of proving that the farmers' market is only marginally more expensive than one of the major grocery stores. The results are surprising.

I don't find it surprising at all. (Other places cheaper than Safeway, with better produce: Chinatown and other ethnic markets.) Also to the farmers' market advantage, the produce lasts way longer, adding to its cost-effectiveness. I quit shopping at our local Safeway except for non-produce things like toilet paper because I was sick of my romaine lettuce going bad in two days. Now that I shop more at the farmer's market, my vegetables and fruit purchases actually last me until the next week.
