All You Can Eat at Dodger Stadium
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack—again and again and again.
I just read in the Wall Street Journal (in the paper version, as the online version of the story is, unfortunately, behind a paywall) that Dodger Stadium is offering all-you-can-eat hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, and soda as part of a package deal in its cheap, right-field seats. "Tickets range from $20 to $40 apiece, depending on the allure of the match-up and whether they are bought by groups or individuals."
The organization hopes the seats-and-eats deal will help fans swallow the steep price increases for this typically bad stadium location. (Fancy seats in many sports venues already offer all-you-can-eat spreads.) The Journal reports that other pro-sports teams are already thinking of copying the idea, notably the NBA's 76ers and the NHL's Flyers, both in Philly (mmm, all-you-can-eat cheesesteaks, anyone?).
NPR reported this story earlier this month, in which it noted that a Dodger Dog costs $4.75; soft drinks, $4.50; and nachos, $6. You'd have to do the math according to your own estimated capacity, but if you consume a couple dogs, a couple drinks, and some nachos, you're probably breaking even.
The Dodgers better hope that competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi never visits.
