Bacon Maple Doughnut: A Handful of Yes

baconmaplebar.jpg If you find yourself in Portland, Oregon, make your way to Voodoo Doughnuts after 6 p.m. and congratulate yourself on your good luck and good timing, because you'll be in the right time and right place to taste their famous Bacon Maple Bar. a) The name is misleading, it's more doughnut than bar, b) it's maple-glazed and topped with two strips of crispy bacon, c) it's about a dollar, d) it's delicious. As Yay Hooray user CowboyX says: "haven't you ever had pancakes and your syrup gets all over your bacon? it's a handful of Yes."

That bacon maple bar sounds outrageously good. Has anyone out there ever had a Voodoo doughnut.?

I saw Bourdain eating these on his show the other night. According to TV editting, he loved it and then wanted it the next day only to find them closed.

I have to admit that I've always has a behind closed door love of all things sweet bacon and maple. I've always kept it to myself because of social pressure. So, I'm with Ed that this sounds too good.

saw the same Bourdaine show - he looked definitely transported by the experience. I used to eat bacon with maple syrup all the time when I was kid.

Yes, I've been here (I lived in Portland). Verdict: overrated. It's a plain donut with bacon on top. It's not that bold a move: Look, I've put two slices of bacon on my Fruity Pebbles!

The place is a plain ole donut shop, and not a very stellar one at that. Overhyped and overrun with hipsters ordering donuts named by someone whose judgement was impaired by too much marijuana.

The intoxication enhancement potentially explains Bourdain's ecstacy like experience when eating them.

Voodoo Doughnuts has a hit or miss aspect to it (like the Guilty Carnivore I live in Portland *waves* Hiiiiii!). I rather enjoy the raised doughnut with vanilla frosting and Froot Loops, but I've had friends insist it was too sweet while scarfing the vegan chocolate ones like they were going out of style (and these weren't vegans).

As for the Bacon Maple Bar, I hate maple bars. So I've never had one. *shrugs*

Mary Sue - I would like that froot loops doughnut (case in point vis-a-vis the pot haze).
