If you like the flavors of a Dark and Stormy, Moscow Mule, or Mojito, you'll love the Mojalisco.

This cocktail features Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer (yup, that's right, ginger beer with booze already in it) plus mint, tequila, and lime juice. The addition of Velvet Falernum emphasizes the ginger and lime, adding sweetness and a rich almond flavor. But the key to this drink is bittersweet Cynar, an amaro (flavored with artichoke, among other things) that adds a mysterious herbal presence that lurks among the refreshing flavors.

Special equipment:
Shaker, strainer, Collins glass, muddler

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • 1 ounce juice from 1 to 2 limes
  • 1 ounce Velvet Falernum
  • 1/2 ounce Cynar
  • 4 ounces Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer
  • 8 mint leaves
  • Garnish: mint sprig

Directions

  1. 1.

Add the mint leaves and Velvet Falernum to a shaker, muddle gently until mint is fragrant but not pulverized. Add tequila, lime juice, and Cynar, then fill shaker 2/3 full with ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker begins to frost.

  2. 2.

Double strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with ginger beer, garnish with mint sprig, and serve.
