This bitter and refreshing amaro-laced tequila cocktail from Aaron Joseph of Wit and Wisdom in Baltimore, MD gives a nod toward the Negroni. It's a light and polished cocktail with a smooth tequila base. Amaro Nonino and Aperol bring bittersweet orange and rhubarb flavor to the combination.

Special equipment:
Mixing Glass, Barspoon, Strainer, Cocktail Glass, Citrus Peeler

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila
  • 1/2 ounce Aperol
  • 1/4 ounce Amaro Nonino
  • 1/2 ounce Cocchi Vermouth di Torino
  • 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • Garnish: grapefruit twist

Directions

  1. 1.

Add tequila, Aperol, Nonino, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, and Peychaud's to a mixing glass. Fill 2/3 full with ice and stir until well chilled, about 20 seconds.

  2. 2.

Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnish with a large grapefruit twist, and serve.
