This aperitif cocktail from The Modern in New York will appeal to those who would normally order a wine spritzer or kir royale, but it has a lovely bitterness from Dubonnet Rouge, an aromatized wine that contains quinine, herbs, and spices.
Note: Store open bottles of Dubonnet and vermouth in the fridge. They should last from 2 to 4 months. Sniff before using and discard if there are any nutty or oxidized aromas present.
- 2 ounces Dolin Dry Vermouth
- 1 ounce Dubonnet Rouge
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau
- 2 dashes orange bitters
- Garnish: orange twist
Fill a mixing glass with ice and add vermouth, Dubonnet, Cointreau, and orange bitters. Stir until chilled and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with orange twist and serve immediately.
