This cocktail from Chicago's Sepia features a pair of wine-based ingredients, dry white port and Barolo Chinato. The latter is an Italian digestif made with a base of Italian Barolo wine. Thanks to an infusion of cinchona bark, gentian and rhubarb roots, and other aromatics, it makes for a warming, full-bodied drink.

  • 2 ounces Old Grand-Dad bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce dry White Port
  • 3/4 ounce Barolo Chinato
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • Dash simple syrup
  • Dash Angostura bitters
  • Orange twist
  • Cinnamon stick for grating

  1. 1.

Combine bourbon, white port, barolo chinato, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with an orange twist and freshly grated cinnamon.
