Chocolate Orange Cream Pie

Note:
Steeping the milk is critical for the bright orange flavor of the filling. For the best zest, wash the oranges well with a little soap and warm water, then carefully scrape the zest with a microplane, taking care to get just the orange and none of the white pith, which will impart a bitter flavor. Bring the milk and zest just to a boil, then turn off the heat and allow it to steep for at least 20 minutes before straining. This will deliver the best and brightest orange flavor.
