Summer Pudding

For me, this is the quintessential summer dessert; once I have it, I know summer has arrived. The summer berry pudding takes a bit of time to prepare, but it's all done ahead of time, so it's not too much effort.
Besides the brioche or the challah listed here, you can use a dense sandwich bread. On the East Coast I use Pepperidge Farm (unfortunately, it's not available in California or some other parts of the country). Serve with whipped cream.
