Eggs Benedict is like pleasure overload: savory little stacks of delicious excess, topped with a crowning glory of Hollandaise sauce.
But could this brunch classic be recreated in a totally sweet form?
You bet your bottom silver dollar pancake. It's time to say hello to a new classic: Cadbury Creme Eggs Benedict. It combines all of the excess of the savory dish, but in completely sweet form, comprised of stacks made of doughnut, brownie, melty Creme Eggs (complete with oozing yolk!), and a topping of rich frosting, all accompanied by a mound of fried pound cake to give the effect of side potatoes.
It's a sweet egg-stravaganza.

About the author: Jessie Oleson is a Seattle-based writer, illustrator, and cake anthropologist who runs Cakespy, an award-winning dessert website.
Ingredients
- 2 Cadbury creme eggs
- 1 plain cake doughnut
- 1 brownie, the fudgier the better
- 1 large slice pound cake, cut into small cubes
- 1 tablespoons butter
- Red sugar sprinkles, to garnish
Procedures

2
Prepare your plate. Slice your doughnut in half; place the halves, cut side up, side by side on your plate.
-
3
Cut your brownie in half, the way that you would slice a bagel (so that you have two fully sized but thin brownie pieces). Either cut or shape each piece into a circle so that it is slightly smaller in circumference than the doughnut halves. Place the circles on top of the doughnut halves.

Note: While I realize that brownies might not have an accurate hue to represent the layer of ham, I chose them for their sturdy texture and for their deliciousness quotient. A pink cookie or layer of colored marzipan could be substituted if you really wanted a hammy look, though.

Prepare the Creme Eggs. The idea here is to get them lightly melty, but not so much that the yolk oozes out. I found that the best way to do this was to either put them on a sheet of aluminum foil atop a baking sheet and put them in either a toaster oven on high or a preheated moderate oven for about a minute. As soon as the tops of the chocolate eggs starts to get a bit shiny, remove them from heat, and very carefully (so as to not puncture the chocolate and let the yolk ooze out) transfer each egg to the top of your two prepared brownie and doughnut stacks.

Sprinkle each finished stack with red sugar sprinkles; serve immediately.

So, what do you think--one or two Weight Watchers points?
I recall having a discussion with a drunk guy in a pub about frying Cadbury eggs as a hangover cure.

That is absolutely disgusting and amazing all at once! :)

Looking at this picture gave me diabeetus.
tayter at 2:51PM on 03/01/10
oohhhh - that should be illegal

I...don't know how I feel about this. On the one hand, eight-year-old me says, "I want one immediately!" On the other hand, as tayter said, diabeetus. Twenty-five-year-old me is conflicted.

Someone must have a lot of time on their hands to have come up with this disgusting, artery clogging mess....and I want one so bad!.

Ah, sweet sweet doughnutbrowniecandyfrosting gluttony. It's posts like this that make me thankful I no longer live by myself, because if I didn't have to endure my boyfriend's horrified face while watching me make and eat this, I would probably set about doing it...today. When it comes to chocolate, I have about zero self-control.

Just looking at this makes my teeth hurt.

That's completely disgusting and also hilarious.

Haha, it looks pretty nasty, but I actually want to try it!

Case study for thisiswhyyourefat.com. Pretty clever, though.

I can't stop staring at the picture - I know that it would give every organ in my body a heart attack, but I still can't tear my eyes away from it.

Doesn't look too appetizing! I'll pass!
jlewfoodie at 7:18PM on 03/01/10
Clever but disgusting. Unusual looking brownies too... rather dark and glossy.
lexophile at 7:21PM on 03/01/10
I have grossed out everyone I know with this today. My favorite part of this recipe is the "to taste" on the frosting. Seriously!? Somebody is going to eat this?! Wouldn't "until it looks kind of wrongly right" be more accurate?
Duckalucky at 7:52PM on 03/01/10
Each bit by their own is plenty delicious, maybe even pairing just two of the components together...all the separate pieces would be altogether far too much.
It no longer feels like synergy or harmony, you know? Just...too many things going on at once.
hungryhungryhippo at 7:55PM on 03/01/10
Visually clever, but taste-wise? It's on the far side of "wretched excess". The Cadbury Creme Egg is super-sweet, super-gooey on its own. Takes "gilding the lily" to a new extreme. Pass.

Well, I'm sure Paula Deen will be all over this...

awesome.

I used to make something like this for my kids: shaped the meatloaf into rings and topped it with white cheese and diced peppers to look like a donut and later cut the pound cake into strips with a side of strawberry jam for the fries and ketchup dessert.
Larikatz at 3:44PM on 03/02/10
You are totally brilliant! I'd never want to actually eat the stuff, of course--but totally brilliant!

Yeah... I think the red sugar sprinkles put it over the top for me! ;-)
Avalonjxn at 6:10PM on 03/03/10
.....soo am I the only one more than a little intrigued about the fried pound cake cubes?

thisiswhyyourfat.com is my inspiration!
As a vegan, Cadbury Creme Eggs mock me from the shelves from February to April every year... oooooh I miss those little devils!
Back in the day I would crack them open & try to make the filling come out like real eggs: too thick...
Cadbury Creme Eggs are super-sweet so layering them on top of a brownie-topped donut & topping it with buttercreme would definately induce vomitting. I'd order the 2-"eggs" over-easy with real homefries: the contrast of the sweet Cadbury Creme Eggs next to the warm, salty crispy-fried potatoes would be a delicious combination. If you've ever drizzled maple syrup on your homefries you'll know what I'm talking about :)
Sugar at 5:06AM on 03/04/10
This is so delightfully over-the-top, I can't help but find it intriguing. Will I try to make this sugar-laden creation? Maybe just once, to be able to say I have. Then I'll have my nieces and nephews consume it and send them home to their unsuspecting parents. Oh, the phone calls...LOL ;)
skyeyes at 9:40PM on 03/04/10
This looks so good right about now because I give up chocolate for Lent every year, and Cadbury Eggs are the first bite of it I take on Easter morning! Darn you, Serious Eats, darn you!
nikkimm33 at 1:58PM on 03/05/10
Eggs Benedict is my favorite brunch and cadbury eggs are my annual guilty pleasure, so this concept is genius to me!
While we're skipping down the processed food path anyway, I might go with something more leathery for the Canadian bacon, like a fruit roll up - I think the fruitiness would add a little spark. The buttercream frosting may be overkill, but what's a Benedict without Hollandaise? A sad state of affairs, that what.
Brilliant!
yayfood at 11:31PM on 03/06/10
Clever, but not terribly appetizing. I think the combination of everything is just so over the top, I can't imagine even wanting to eat it. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of Cadbury cream eggs. However, kudos for imagination!

Oh, Oh, Francis. I'm thinking that a hobby might be good for you. Something like bird watching or train spotting. You know, something sane.
Brooks at 9:18PM on 03/08/10
This is so diabetes on a platter! No part of this would I feed my family Easter or not! It is very clever though!
naturebaby at 2:08PM on 03/12/10
That looks positively evil!
Maybe slices of guava paste in place of the brownies for more of a hammy look and a bit of fruit flavor? It might be a decent alternative.
thisdaydreamer at 2:24AM on 03/31/10
I don't think it looks like it has Hollandaise on top. Fortunately, this is easily remedied with yellow Peeps marshmallow sauce.

This looked so disgusting I had to make it! My BF ate one of the halves and actually enjoyed it. He thanks you, though I'm sure his arteries do not.
jenwong at 5:12PM on 04/18/10
its better if you use brownie mix instead of brownie
