I just finished watching Esquire magazine's resident cocktail historian Dave Wondrich on the Colbert Report.
After sipping a daiquiri and some rye whiskey, Colbert, true to megalomaniacal form, had Wondrich create a signature cocktail for him. Called The Colbert Bump,* it's based on cherry bounce, a cordial that both Wondrich and Eric Felten of the Wall Street Journal say George Washington used to drink.
Colbert, post-drink: "By the way, after these two drinks, you are really cute."
The recipe for--and the video clip of the making of--the Colbert Bump, after the jump.
- 1 ounce Heering cherry liqueur
- 1 1/2 ounces "good ol' Republican gin"
- 1/4 ounce lemon juice ("we gotta keep away the scurvy")
- Splash of soda water ("for summer cooling")
To a tall iced-tea glass filled three-quarters full of ice, add the ingredients in the order above. Stir and serve with a heavy dose of pomposity.
