Rice Krispies Sushi

20090103-candy-sushi.jpg

No, there isn't raw fish in these Rice Krispies treats, just good old-fashioned marshmallows, Swedish Fish gummies, and Fruit by the Foot (or Fruit Roll-Ups). My friend made them for me as a Christmas present and they were so darn cute, I couldn't stop taking pictures. Not bad tasting either, as a sweet and crunchy snack. Plus, it's a fun hands-on activity for the kids. The recipe, after the jump.

Rice Krispies Sushi

- serves 12 to 20 -

Ingredients

6 cups Rice Krispies (or other puffed rice cereal)
4 cups marshmallows
1/4 cup butter
12 to 20 Swedish Fish (or other fish-shaped candy)
1 package of Fruit by the Foot or Fruit Roll-Ups
Gummy worms (optional)

Procedure

1. Unwrap Swedish Fish and Fruit by the Foot and set to side. Prepare a baking sheet with wax paper.

2. Melt butter and marshmallows together.

3. Once melted together reduce heat and gently stir in Rice Krispies.

4. Keep mixture warm and pliable and immediatly start forming into sushi-sized balls (or a little bigger). Place Swedish Fish on top and wrap with a piece of the Fruit by the Foot. Lie on baking sheet and work till all Rice Krispies mix is finished.

If you are feeling ambitious, wrap some of the mixture around a folded gummy worm for the "stuffed" effect.

This would be awesome for a kid's birthday party!

Very tasty, too!

That is too precious!

Love the idea! Gonna do a reverse roll with the rice crispies on the outside and rolled lightly in red poprocks roe :D

This is an awesome idea... there are so many crazy possibilities!

What a fabulous idea!!

Yay! Sushi I can make at home without inflicting major gastrointestinal harm one anyone. Ever try to find sushi-grade fish in the Midwest?

My husband and I have been making this for years. The kids love it and when we bring it to get togethers the grown ups do too!

i made these for Halloween! I wish I had taken pictures. Get green fruit role ups and slice them and it looks even more like nigiri.

That looks delicious! Must be some friend!

This is a kind of sushi that doesn't stain your shirt with soy sauce.

Just made, they're really good. The fruity flavor really ads something to the rice krispies. What it really needs? Chocolate fondue as a substitute for soy sauce.

This is too cute!

Sounds like an oxymoron but, true, this would work on a kid's birthday party. What an interesting idea!
