The Cartoon Kitchen: Spice Pound Cake

About This Recipe


  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) sweet butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons ground coffee
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, a pinch of salt, the cinnamon, clove, and cardamom.

    Cream the butter with the dry ingredients; add the eggs, coffee and vanilla. Mix well and turn out into a greased loaf pan.

    Bake for 50 minutes; let cool. Chocolate icing is nice, but not necessary.
