A Toast to the New Year, Serious Eaters: Tangerine, Campari, and Soda

Another delicious cocktail from the fertile imagination of Mario Batali to toast the new year with. Think of it as the liquid version of Larry Gonick's Oranges Campari. Let's raise a glass to the Serious Eats community. We love hanging out with all of you, chewing the fat about our mutual food enthusiasms and passions. May the new year be filled with all things delicious. Happy New Year, Serious Eaters!

Tangerine, Campari, and Soda

- makes 8 servings -

Ingredients

14 tangerines
1 quart soda water
8 ounces Campari

Procedure

Juice 12 of the tangerines and chill the juice. Cut the remaining 2 tangerines into 1/8-inch slices. Fill 8 highball glasses with ice and place 2 tangerine slices in each glass. Add 3 ounces of juice to each glass and fill the glass to 2/3 full with soda. Pour in Campari to fill the glass and float one more tangerine slice in each glass.

Ooh, this sounds divine. There's not enough love in the world for Campari -- I'm so glad to see it showcased here! My favorite cocktail is simply half Campari and half orange juice. People think I'm out of my mind, but I love that sweet and bitter and tangy combo. I'll have to try this recipe now!

Tangerine and Campari, why didn't I think of that?! I love Campari and soda with lime, so I must try this New Years Day while watching football :)

Happy New Year to each of the Serious Eats team & my fellow Serious Eats buddies! We have some serious eating to do in 2008!

Does anyone know why it's impossible to find the small CompariSoda bottles here in New York?
If I'm not mistaken, aren't there a few Italians living here?

norman, I see are you talking about those little Bitter sodas?
I get them at Italian groceries in NYC.
