Serious Sandwiches: Zagi's Meatball Sub
Since we started the Serious Sandwiches Flickr Group at the end of last year, there have been a ton of great submissions, but my favorite photo so far has got to be this one—the "king of the meatball sandwiches" posted by made by moxie. It comes from Zagi's, a 3 year old pizza parlor in the Ballard district of Seattle—a city I've never been to, but am now seriously considering visiting.
Their hot meatball sub starts with a ciabatta style roll special made from Larsen's Danish Bakery. It gets sliced in half and smothered with a house made garlic olive oil (made from the same oil they use to roast all their garlic). After a minute of toasting, the bread is ready to get loaded up—starting first with the meatballs, which are made using fresh ground beef from Cascioppo Bros Meat Market, garlic, parsley, molasses, onion powder, bread crumbs and lord knows what else (they toss alot of stuff in there). The meatballs get baked first before being sautéed in Zagi's pizza sauce, which I've been told has a nice little kick, covered in mozzarella, and tossed into the sandwich. On top of that goes your onions and peppers (if you want), grated Parmesan, and fresh basil.
Think you can top that? Post photos of your favorite sandwiches to the Serious Sandwiches Flickr Group now...

A nice note, that is too bad you didn't notice: Zagi's, Larsens (where the bread is from) and Cascioppo Bros (where the meat is from) are all on the same corner. Very cool.

I never understood why all these amazing-looking sandwiches have shredded lettuce on them by default. Shredded lettuce adds nothing to a sandwich but cold sogginess, and so does leaf lettuce if it's a hot sandwich. No more shredded lettuce on sandwiches!!!!

You have to visit Seattle. This is a great foodie town. Haven't been to Zagi's yet, tho I know exactly where it is and have passed that corner on the 18 bus many times.
