Serious Sandwiches: Rosino Panino

With few exceptions, most food at outdoor concerts is terrible, leaving music lovers to stuff themselves beforehand or pack a portable picnic. Nothing is more portable than a sandwich, and this past weekend, one of my Flickr friends found the perfect sandwich for a preArcade Fire picnic on Randall's Island in New York: the Rosino Panino, picked up from Sorriso Italian Pork Store in Astoria, Queens.
For over 25 years, Sorriso has been serving up a long list of sandwiches, stuffed with every Italian ingredient imaginable—but on this day, the Rosino Panino won out for its portability and durability.
It may look like chicken, but those thick white slabs in the middle of the sandwich are actually house-made slices of fresh mozzarella (made three times a day) piled atop a generous helping of prosciutto cotto. Then come the red peppers, roasted in-house with a generous marinade of garlic and olive oil, the whole thing topped with more olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.
The sandwich normally comes on a ciabatta roll, but if you're in an eatin' mood, the Italian sub roll makes for a bigger affair. All the bread is baked fresh at Parisi Brothers Bakery, also in Astoria.
Randall's Island concerts are done for this season, but Sorriso's is open all year.

I am so mad! I went to that concert and didn't know that this was so close by, waiting to be had! I ate beforehand at the Bohemian Hall Beer Garden, and now am very upset! haha. Thanks for the enlightening post.
