Cheap Eats in London

Time Out London presents their Cheap Eats Guide 2007: "The average cost of a meal out in London is nearly £40 per head, but if you've only got 20 quid, don't despair. Our critics have hand picked 70 of the capital's best budget venues."

London must be one expensive place if 6 pounds for a drink is considered "reasonable". (http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/features/2553/4.html)(the listing for "Hive") Thats $12! Obviously there are plenty of places in NYC that sell drinks for $12 or more, but I wouldn't call that reasonable, nor would I consider putting that place on a "cheap eats" list.

London is in fact so very expensive that the NYC tourism authority advertises New York as a comparatively cheap place to go on vacation.

Here in London, a single underground ticket in zone 1 is, in fact, £4! That's almost $8. Every time I go to the cashpoint I am seized by a sense of impending doom.
