Growing up, my family belonged to a CSA. Every week, we'd get fresh eggs, veggies, and fruits from a number of farms in the area (a surprising number, despite it being the heavily populated I-95 corridor between Baltimore and DC). For me, as a young kid who was just starting to cook, the seasonality of the ingredients was part of the fun. Though the American supermarket has all but eliminated seasonal restrictions on the types of produce we eat, the crop from the CSA was, of course, entirely beholden to the climate. This meant that some weeks, rather than having a variety of produce, we'd end up with pounds upon pounds of a single vegetable. To this day, I love the challenge of getting creative enough to use it all up.

So every year, when mid-summer rolled around, I knew we'd have zucchini. Lots of it. Piled on countertops, stacked on bookshelves, nestled between the very webbing of your toes. Most years we'd run out of ideas and turn whatever we had left into zucchini bread (a delicious, if typical, solution). No longer!
