EVERYONE POINT AT ROBYN!!!
Besides being my last day in the office, it's also Kenji's last day before he moves to San Francisco. MUCH SADNESS.
Here we are with our homemade going-away cards. I make cards for almost everyone who moves or leaves Serious Eats. The theme of Kenji's card was easy: he loves egg! Niki made an amazing doge-inspired card for me. Seriously, just so good. I will forever hate myself for not thinking of that first. Niki, you shall carry on the card-making torch!
Daniel's "I Love Egg" Chair Dance
Not that we weren't already 50000 percent sure that hiring Daniel to take Kenji's place in NYC was the right choice, but that he loves the "I Love Egg" song bumps that percentage up by a few bagillion.
Robyn's Going-Away Dinner
Ed held my going-away dinner at 99 Favor Taste, an all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean barbecue joint. It was a memorable experience, not for the quality of the food (it averaged out to all right) but for the amount of it—about twice as much as we could comfortably eat. But it was a fitting way to send me off. Out of everyone in the office, I usually feel the worst after eating too much (or maybe I'm just the most vocal about it) but this time everyone felt awful and bloated. The pain brought us closer together.
One of the best parts of the night was when our waiters manhandled the chicken wings, destroying any hope that their skins would stay intact. Kenji couldn't stop staring at the grave injustice unfolding before him. Hell, I'm pretty sure he stopped breathing at some point. Ben lent a placating arm around Kenji's shoulder.
Go, Ben, Go!
After gorging on grilled and simmered meats, a few of us popped into Baby Grand, one of our favorite local bars, for some karaoke and drinks. Here's Ben belting out "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant."
Kenji's Going-Away Dinner
Yuba and Hambone!
Yuba and Hambone were mega-pooped from Memorial Day weekend. They spent most of their time in the office sleeping.
Switch It Up
Or Just Both Cram In There
Yuba likes licking Kenji's feet. Whatever floats your boat, Yuba! (...Or Kenji.)
Pet the Yuba!
Does she enjoy it? ...The world may never know.
Slice That Salad
We don't usually notice when Leandra prepares her salads, but it was hard to ignore the time she pulled out a pizza slicer to chop it up. She sheepishly told us she read about it on someone's blog. Whatever, it works!
Unintentional Pink Day
That time Jim, Ed, Ben, and Leandra all wore pink. Lookin' good, guys.
Does Hambone Want Scratchies?
Hambone usually wants scratchies.
Niki and Hambone
FRIENDS 4 EVER.
50 dumplings for $12, one of the easiest ways to feed the office. We got this batch from Tasty Dumpling, just one of many cheap dumpling shops in Chinatown. Here's Rabi and Max digging in.
Hambone's "I Want Something" Position
Hambone Wants a Cracker Bit
Yuba Wants a Cracker Bit
Nope, Back to Sleep
Jamie, the Happiest Person at Dairy Queen
Jamie and I checked out the new Dairy Queen near Union Square (54 West 14th Street) for lunch on opening day this past Thursday. Why? Because Jamie loves Dairy Queen (Blizzards, mainly) to death. We invited the rest of the office, but they were not as thrilled as we were by the prospect of stuffing their faces with Blizzards.
Mega Editorial Meeting
This week's editorial meeting may have been our most populous ever, thanks to Maggie and Nick flying in and the arrival of two new interns.
Blind Pasta Taste Test
And this is Max helping Niki taste the pastas blind. ...It's things like this that make us all such good friends.
The latest cuteness from Dennis Lee and Cricket:
"C'mon, Dennis. Gimme that. Gimme it now. Gimme gimme."
"Why do you always have to ruin my fun?"
