Chinatown Snow

SEHQ was nearly empty on Thursday due to the snow storm. Here's what the streets around the office looked like. Gray, slushy streets.

Yuba's Snow Day
Yuba's Snow Day

What did Yuba do on her snow day? She decided to collect all of her toys, place them on her bed, and sleep in the middle. LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST, YUBA.

Here's a humble snow castle Kenji helped build when he was in Tahoe last weekend.

Pies Against Cancer
Pies Against Cancer

A good way to raise money is to throw a homemade pie buffet party, as SE intern alum Christopher Stephens demonstrated over the weekend at his Pies Against Cancer fundraiser.

Niki sure felt like a special lady when she received this bouquet of bacon roses for Valentine's Day.

Valentine's Day With Dennis and Cricket
Valentine's Day With Dennis and Cricket

"There's nothing sadder than a single guy spending Valentine's Day with his cat," Dennis laments. Dennis, we are all spending Valentine's Day with you in spirit. Do you feel that? The encroaching claustrophobia? That's us! Crowding you with love!!!

LA Dog
LA Dog

Jamie been in Los Angeles all week, far from the snow and slush of SEHQ. Here are some of her LA snapshots!

"This is Buddy the black lab, an ex-NYer who recently moved out to LA. I was reunited with him on one magical afternoon filled with bellyrubs and slobber."

Thai Sausage Platter
Thai Sausage Platter

"LA has a ton of great Thai restaurants, but this was my first time at the new-ish Night + Market, which serves up traditional Northern Thai-style food, including this sausage sampler platter, which took me straight back to the streets of Chiang Mai. Chef Kris Yenbamroong travels back to Thailand a few times a year to smuggle back peppercorns and spice mixes, and we're all the better for it."

Chilaquiles
Chilaquiles

I gorge myself on Mexican food whenever I'm in LA. One of my favorite sit-down restaurants is Guelaguetza, which specializes in Oaxacan cuisine and is known for their vast mole menu. But I'm a sucker for chilaquiles (and also string cheese), so over lunch with contributor Farley Elliot and Midtown Lunch founder Zach Brooks, I buried myself in this handsome platter of chips.

Taco Plate
Taco Plate

"Tacos tacos tacos! This plate cost $3.50. The pastor, which was sliced off the spit and seared on the flattop, was the best. But also: TOPPINGS!"

Snook
Snook

"This is Mexican food like I've never had it before—at Coni Seafood, a no-frills Nayarit-style restaurant in Inglewood, a whole snook (ordered by weight) is butterflied, marinated in a super tangy, salty-sweet-savory secret sauce, then grilled whole and served splayed out with a bowl of ultra-beefy caramelized onions. I begged for more information but came up empty-handed. If anyone knows more about this fish, please get in touch!"

"Also, then I ate the spine. With my hands. Mmm, fish spine."
