The new Holiday Dessert issue of the Serious Eats Magazine is out and available for download right now!
Is there a better excuse to overindulge in sweets than the holiday season? I can't come up with one. Let me count the rationalizations I use: "It's the holidays;" "It's a party—it's rude not to partake;" "I feel deprived if I don't sample every single thing that's put in front of me."
I imagine our contributors and staffers had this and general holiday merriment in mind while trying to figure out which stories and recipes to put in our Holiday Dessert issue. When we discovered we had an embarrassment of riches on this particular topic, we knew we had to make some delightfully difficult decisions.
What we ended up will fill the sweet-toothed with joy for the holiday season: recipes for chocolate and salted caramel Bûche de Nöel (dibs on that), tips on decorating classic sugar cookies, and instructions for spiking your hot cocoa with tequila and mint and upgrading your eggnog with more than a hint of butterscotch.
So happy holidays, serious eaters, from all of us in the SE universe. We wish you a season of good health, good cheer, and good eats. If you haven't already subscribed to our monthly magazine, at the rate of $1.99 for a monthly subscription, or $19.99 for a year, please consider doing so. It's the easiest way to get all of our best stories in one beautifully-designed place, and makes a great holiday gift, if we may say so ourselves.
And if you're in the throes of holiday madness, might I recommend popping over to our Holiday Survival Guide? Chock-full of recipes, taste-tests, planning guides, and more, it has everything you need to make this holiday season truly delicious.
