This week we held our second annual full day off-site meeting at one of our favorite restaurants, Balaboosta, to usher in a new team of Serious Eaters.

Omg Balaboosta, we love you and your hummus and falafel and pita and fries and salads and dips so much.

Ssshhh, serious discussion is going on.

The Serious Eats team

Say hello to the Serious Eats team! (Including Yuba and Hambone, but you probably know who they are already.) The only one missing is Niki, who had to leave early. Aw.

Niki and Yuba
Niki and Yuba

Niki fit in a bit of Yuba time before she had to leave. This girl's got her priorities straight.

Stretch those arms/front legs!

Yuba is a calisthenics master!...with a little help from Kenji.

Hambone and Yuba, pooped as usual.

Here's a Yuba close-up because aw.

Too much dog?

While Niki was cuddling Hambone, Kenji noticed something was missing.

Yup, that looks about right.

And now, back to the grind
And now, back to the grind

Yuba can be quite productive when she puts her mind to it. Also, when we tempt her with meat.

A new friend?

Hambone and Yuba sniffled around the lobster for a bit, then...ran away.

Yo Doc Ricky!

Dr. Ricky, the man behind Science Based Cuisine stopped by the office during his trip to New York to help us taste sandwiches and pizza. He poses with fellow science-lover Kenji here on his way back to Houston.

Mostly pizza, or Hambone, in Kenji's case.

Special Delivery!
Special Delivery!

We got a special delivery at the office on Tuesday. AquaFarm is a self-cleaning fish tank that also grows food. All you do is feed the fish (we named our betta Jeff). His waste gets filtered up through a gravel-based root system and fertilizes the herbs and wheat grass growing above. We've only had ours set up for three days now, but the shoots are already several inches long! We'll keep you updated on how it works, but if you're interested, you can order them online for about $60, or buy them at Whole Foods locations on the West Coast (expanding east soon). They'll even throw in a coupon for a free fish!

Mm, buttery burgers

We put our Food Lab kitchen intern Luke on burger duty this week. Shove a few lil' blocks of butter in there. Yup, that's good stuff.
