New York City's Vendy Awards, the annual celebration/competition of street food vendors, made its way south to Philadelphia this weekend for the third year in a row. Over 600 locals and a few tourists in Penn Treaty Park sampled some of the best street food The City of Brotherly Love has to offer: Falafel Truck's platter of falafel over rice, KAMI's authentic Korean bulgogi, Chewys' maple syrup-laced chicken and waffles, The Tot Cart's Old Bay-dusted tater tots, and The Cow and the Curd's molten cheese curds. The dessert nominees included cupcakes both vegan (a Jimmy Churro from Jimmies Cupcakes) and porcine (the bacon-laced Oink! Oink! from Cupcake Carnivale), along with Sugar Philly's macarons and Lil' Pop Shop's cooling fruity popsicles.

The judges, chefs Paul Kimport and Andrew Gerson, Every Day with Rachael Ray Editor-in-Chief Lauren Purcell, and Di Bruno Bros owner Emilio Mignucci, had their work cut out for them. In the end, The Cow and the Curd went home with the People's Choice award, Lil' Pop Shop took the Dessert Vendy, and a speechless and emotional Nabil and Hined Akkeh from the King of Falafel cart stayed true to their name, going home with the coveted Vendy Cup at the end of the day.
