"Goodbye Carey" breakfast
Today is Carey's last day in the Serious Eats Office! :'C We drowned our sorrows (...and celebrated her years of work at Serious Eats) the best way we know how: with carbs. And fat. First, a breakfast spread of lox, spreads, bagels, and a loaf of chocolate babka from Russ and Daughters, and a pile of kouign amann and almond croissants from Dominique Ansel.
A closer look at those kouign amann because why not
Break out the dry ice
We didn't get dry ice specifically for the breakfast party—they came in a package we received that morning—but they added a nice touch to the festivities.
Carey, get that babka
The babka was gone by the end of the day.
Everyone, dig in!
A toast for Carey
We ended the day on a classy note with champagne. ...Mostly poured into plastic cups. But we gave Carey a real wine glass.
Carey's last moments with Mr. Bear
Mr. Bear is too damn huge for Carey to bring home, so he'll just live in the SE office. Forever.
Sad Carey, perpetually happy Mr. Bear
Serious Eats-inspired brunch
American Cancer Society's 'Taste of Hope'
There's a certain set of chefs you'll find at most NYC benefits, but we love seeing something new—like when Parkway Bakery and Tavern, one of our favorite New Orleans po' boy shops, shows up at a Soho tasting event. At American Cancer Society's "Taste of Hope" event, they served a BBQ Alligator po' boy with a Creole remoulade sauce.
Up from NOLA
Here's Parkway owner Jay Nix, who came up from New Orleans with his wife and son for the event.
Gallow Green, Reopened
The rooftop bar Gallow Green has reopened on top of the "McKittrick Hotel," the performance space of Sleep No More in West Chelsea, and Carey celebrated their opening by attending the "Herb Festival," with live music and their excellent punches.
Yuba and Hambone
Hey, Yuba and Hambone, are you excited to go to brunch with Kenji?
Someone's a bit drooly
Time to look at the cherry blossoms in the park!
Finally, hang-out time on the deck.
