A Fond Farewell To National Managing Editor Erin Zimmer
Our wondrous National Managing Editor Erin Zimmer is moving on. It's hard even typing those words, and I am rarely at a loss for words. For more than five years Erin has been an invaluable part of the Serious Eats team, first as our Washington bureau chief and eventually as our National Managing Editor in New York.
Erin's talent, smarts, humor, and grace under pressure played a huge role in our development. It's not an exaggeration to say that Serious Eats wouldn't be Serious Eats without her enormous contributions,I feel honored and privileged that Erin has graced us with her presence all this time, particularly at a moment in our culture where it seems like people change jobs as often as they change clothes.
Erin embodied the Serious Eats mantra: Passionate, Discerning, Inclusive. Plus, her funny, welcoming, instantly recognizable writing voice represents the best of what Serious Eats has to offer. I am of course saddened by her leaving, but that sadness is more than offset by the joy Erin brought to work just about every day, and also by what she gave to Serious Eats in the time she was here.
The good news for Serious Eaters everywhere is that we have found a worthy successor to Erin. Jamie Feldmar brings all the same qualities that drew me to Erin: she is smart, passionate, fearless, funny, a great writer and editor, and is absolutely devoted to the pursuit of seriously delicious food. Jamie will be ably assisted by newly promoted associate editor Niki Achitoff-Gray, whom many of you know from the stellar job she has done recently as Slice editor. Niki will still be on the Slice case, but she and Jamie (along with Kenji, Robyn, Max, Maggie. Nick, and Carrie) will now play a key role in building upon what Erin has accomplished on Serious Eats main, as well as leaving their own imprimatur on Serious Eats.
As for Erin, as a quintessential serious eater, she will be one of us forever. Erin has a permanent place at our table, wherever and whatever we might be eating.
