Our beloved and invaluable managing editor Carey Jones, who started here as our first intern in the summer of 2006—before there even was a Serious Eats—is leaving us today to pursue her writing career full-time. We're happy for her but will miss her greatly at SEHQ.
When I met Carey in 2006, it didn't take me long to see that she was ridiculously hard working, utterly focused, and smart as a whip. When I sent her down rat holes that would result in content that never saw the light of day, she never complained. She did it fast, she did it well, and asked for more to do. That's pretty much how she's been as a full-time staffer, starting as the New York editor in 2009 and then being promoted to Senior Managing Editor last year. She's a patient mentor, a superb manager, and a damn good writer. And nobody writes as efficiently and elegantly as Carey. The woman writes at warp speed.
So let's raise a glass to our beloved Carey Jones, who will continue to write for Serious Eats as she makes her way in the world as a freelance writer. We'll miss you, Carey, and as far as I am concerned, you are a member of the Serious Eats family for life.
