A Sandwich a Day: Pan con Lechón at La Esquina Del Lechón in Doral, Florida
In this great nation of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the country. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.
When diners sit down for a Cuban meal at La Esquina Del Lechón, they're greeted by a basket of dinner rolls, prepackaged pats of butter, and a fistful of freshly fried chicharrones. It's a hell of a build-your-own-sandwich routine, but those who aren't satisfied with the free appetizer can graduate to the restaurant's pan con lechón ($6.95 regular, $8.95 large). Dressed with bits of cracklin' and sauteéd onions, it's a rendition of the classic roast pork sandwich so good that it made The Serious Eats Book. Be sure to apply a hefty spoonful of the excellent housemade chimichurri or salsa verde for the optimal bite.
