Snapshots from the First New Orleans Vendy Awards
Last week the Vendy Awards took place in New Orleans for the first time, featuring nine finalists that ranged from tacos to po' boys.
Some, like Ms. Linda's Soul Food Catering, have been New Orleans fixtures for years. Others, like the Fat Falafel truck, are relative newcomers. All the venders, however, were united in their support of the New Orleans Food Truck Coalition and Slow Food NOLA, the beneficiaries of the event. The Food Truck Coalition is currently locked in an extended battle to convince the city council to loosen food truck regulations that date back to the 1950s, so the awards also served as a chance to showcase the diversity and quality of street food in New Orleans.
The judges and the voters alike selected Foodie Call NOLA as the winner.
