The Italian Store—Arlington's eminent Italian importer-grocer-pizzeria-deli—has a reputation for good food that takes the form of a half-hour wait in line. As we've reported before, the sandwiches are worth the time (or at least an advance phone call for pickup).
Made "Philadelphia style," each Italian sub is a heavyset layer cake of cold cuts, cured meats, and quality cheeses, splashed with an olive-oil dressing and served on your choice of Italian roll. Numerous combinations are offered, but if you're looking to keep things simple, try the Prosciutto and Fresh Mozzarella ($8.99 small, $9.99 large). Piled with slices of sweet, fragrant prosciutto and enough thick, creamy hunks of mozz to get you through one of history's lesser sieges, this sandwich may as well be a middle finger to Jared Fogle and the Subway diet.
