Welcome to Oregon Month!
While in Portland for the Feast festival (see our event recaps here), Maggie and I explored the city, from one food cart pod to another, with many nights ending in ice cream. After a weekend of feasting, we hit the road and do some more feasting elsewhere in the great state of Oregon.
We headed north on I-5 then through a lush Douglas Fir-filled forest before reaching the coastal towns of Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Depoe Bay, and Newport along the 101. Our quest: to find the best fish and chips, the best chowder, the best smoked fish, and whatever else looked good. (We accomplished all of the above.) We also visited the Tillamook factory for a behind-the-scenes tour of cheese production, and maybe we ended up trying every flavor of ice cream they make... Then it was back on the road to Eugene to see what's good there (some more ice cream, many microbrews), and finally back to Portland again.
Thank you to Travel Oregon for helping us make this trip happen—special shout-out to Stacey Malstrom and all of her itinerary tips! Thanks also to Maggie's parents who were wonderful hosts. We also appreciated all of our new friends along the way who helped point us to chowder greatness and other serious eats that we'll be sharing with you this month. Some of them also deserve to be recognized for finishing our leftovers (cough, Dustin from the FishBox!).
Stay tuned for a new dispatch from Oregon each day this month!
