If you haven't heard, we're teaming up with Pepperidge Farm to hold a Puff Pastry creation challenge. We're pretty excited about this competition, and not just because we want to see what you all can create. The prize (in addition to a trip to New York and a Cusinart mixer) is a pastry crawl with Ed and the rest of the Serious Eats team, and since we're crazy (really, crazy) about pastry here, well, we're pretty pumped.

To cover all the bases, the crawl will have SoHo and Uptown legs (like we said, crazy). In SoHo, we'll definitely be hitting Balthazar. We go mad for their insanely luxurious and outrageously delicious Plum Galette.


Also in SoHo is the incomparable Dominique Ansel Bakery. Ansel, a Daniel Boulud protégé, makes the most exquisite, made-to-order egg-on-brioche sandwiches, aptly named the Perfect Little Egg Sandwich. And it's just the tip of the so-much-deliciousness iceberg at this place.

Moving forward, we'll have to stop by Ceci-Cela on Spring Street, home of our favorite croissant (and you KNOW we did our research). The pull-apart layers, the insanely buttery flavor...these make a part of you die and go to heaven, every time.

Heading uptown, we'll definitely duck into Epicerie Boulud, where we adore the Tarte Breton.

And Levain is a must for those doughy chocolate chip cookie bombs.
