There was a day some time ago when I decided to appoint myself the official Halloween party-thrower each year. Partly because of my late-October birthday, and how my childhood parties would always turn into de-facto costume parties. People would show up in costume, even if it wasn't technically a dress-up party.

Years later, I still hang the fake spiderwebs and fill the CVS-purchased plastic cauldron with some festive punch. Here are some of my favorites for the party munchies table!

Deviled Egg Eyeballs

Deviled eggs are one of my all-time favorite partyfoods. You can find me parked next to the platter of deviled eggs at any party amazing enough to serve them. A party could be unbearably awful, but if there were deviled eggs, I'd never leave.

These deviled eyeballs get a good dose of mustard and paprika, with black olives for the irises and roasted red pepper slices for the veins. If you want to take it to the next level, check out these albino black widow deviled eggs on the Hairpin.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

To dry quickly

The key to Halloween party success = bowls of roasted seeds. People will snack on these crunchy, salty treats all night long. Be adventerous with seasonings too!

Spider Bread

This arthropodal loaf also serves as a party starch for dipping and spreading with whatever else is on the table.

Mini Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

"You're making the pumpkin whoopies again this year, right?" Sometimes I wonder if people would even show up to the party if these weren't on the munchies table. The recipe comes from the Brooklyn bakery Baked, and they're fun to make, especially in the smaller size.

Pumpkin and Apple Cider Cocktail

Two of the most fall-y flavors—apple cider and pumpkin—in the same glass. Apple cider plays the main role but the addition of pumpkin purée gives this cocktail a slightly thicker texture and squashy flavor. Since no party host wants to be making drinks to order, prepare a big batch of this, or another punch you like.

...Or, just drink beer.
