A Sandwich a Day: Chicken Salad Sandwich at Starbelly, San Francisco

In this great country of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year--so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the country. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. --The Mgmt.

I don't usually get too excited for chicken salad sandwiches, but I found this rosemary chicken salad ($9), on the brunch and lunch menus at Starbelly in San Francisco's Castro, pretty irresistible. The filling itself is great, tender shards of white meat bound with a healthy amount of excellent mayo and grain mustard, spiced and crunch-ed up with a jalapeƱo and radicchio slaw. But the bread's an equal star, chewy and crisp in all the right ways, but with a crust that's not so stiff it resists your bite. It's a sandwich that stays together as you eat it, meaning that in every sense, it's a sandwich that's easy to eat.
