Southern Cooking Class at the Viking Cooking School

Culinary tourism has taken off in the past decade. Many destinations now offer food and wine related tours and classes, such as wine tastings and vineyard tours, manufacturer tours of popular regional food staples, and farm to table experiences.

Viking offers a different experience. It's located 15 cooking schools across the United States that offer classes on everything from regional cuisine and cooking basics to family classes, date night events, and steakhouse nights. Participants pay a fee and receive a hands-on lesson in the making of a meal or a variety of items, all of which they get to sample at the end of the class.

I took a class on Southern Cooking at the Memphis location of the Viking Cooking School. This class covered such staples as fried chicken, collard greens, and banana pudding. Want to see what it was like and what to expect when you go? Check out the slideshow »
