Naomi Pomeroy at Work
Naomi Pomeroy of Beast preparing what would make her a winner of the Sandwich Invitational at Feast Portland.
Beast's maple-glazed pork belly with pickled watermelon slaw on a housemade semolina roll. This was deservedly the winner of the Sandwich Invitational for its balance of flavors and fatty deliciousness.
Franklin Barbecue (Austin) and Podnah's Pit (Portland)
Bunk served up this "matahambre" (hunger killer), a play on a traditional sandwich from Argentina with chuck steak and a slow-cooked egg marinated in chimichurri, along with spinach and carrot escabeche.
Charm City Cakes (Los Angeles)
Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes served up his "Egg McDuffin" to the delight of the crowds. That's Serrano ham, bacon, and sausage on there for all the pork lovers.
Foreign & Domestic (Austin)
Texas-smoked Carlton Farms pork butt and pickled Dungeness crab with Oregon pear slaw and pig's ear gravy. Crispy and patriotic fare from Foreign and Domestic.
Irving Street Kitchen (Portland)
This Cuban fritas from Irving Street Kitchen contained chicken liver, Kobe beef, pork tenderloin, and veal. Talk about meaty.
Kenny & Zuke's (Portland)
Classic reuben from Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen. Delicious pastrami, and even better with chopped liver (available at their deli).
Lincoln's Dungeness crab rolls with tarragon, lemon, and fennel await diners.
Pine State Biscuits (Portland)
Pine State Biscuits offered a precious little biscuit with pork tenderloin and apple chutney.
Staple & Fancy (Seattle)
Staple & Fancy's Ethan Stowell showed off his pork belly porchetta sandwich with Bosc pear and onion mostarda. A big portion and with big flavor.
Molly Moon's (Seattle)
Molly Moon's cute coffee ice cream sandwich with chocolate cookies.

Here's how the Sandwich Invitational looked from my room at the Paramount Hotel, directly across from Director Park in Portland.
