Planters may be one of the biggest name in peanuts, but they certainly lag behind Jif and Skippy when it comes to the ubiquity of peanut butter brands. In fact, I never really knew they made peanut butter until a few jars of their new line "NUTrition" (hah, get it?) showed up at SEHQ. The three new butters feature mix-ins like raisins, other dried fruits, and granola.
While some might assume that peanut butter and banana can never go wrong, Banana Granola Nut (that would be peanut butter with banana, granola, and peanuts) does! The banana flavor was distinct but very artificial tasting, like a creamy banana cough syrup. Ick!
I had high hopes for Cinnamon Raisin Granola Nut because of the extreme deliciousness of Peanut Butter & Co's Cinnamon Raisin Swirl peanut butter. This stuff, though, isn't quite so delicious, probably because it's going more for "healthy" than "dessert." It just needs more: more raisins, more cinnamon! There aren't enough of any of the mix-ins. I didn't detect the granola at all, except for the fact that my bite took longer to chew. It's not horrible, but it also doesn't give me any reason to prefer it to a classic peanut butter.
Berry Nut has cranberries and peanuts mixed in, and it's definitely the best of the three. There are more dried cranberries packed into the jar than there are raisins in the Cinnamon Raisin; the slight sweetness of the cranberries is nice with the salty peanuts. I ate mine out of a spoon but it'd also be nice on a sandwich without interfering with jelly or a banana.
