If you're anything like I was as a student, going off to college means making packing lists.

With the school year starting up in the next few weeks, it's time to get organized. In addition to bed risers, bookends and Bananagrams, don't forget to pack in some gear to get you cooking and eating well. Whether you live in a dorm room with only a microwave and cereal bowl, or have upgraded to a living situation with a full on kitchen - stove and all - here are some ideas to bring (and stuff in your mini-fridge) when you head back to school.

But these are just a couple of my favorites. What's going on your packing list?

Food

  • mayonnaise
  • tea
  • sugar packets
  • sriracha
  • Cheerios and Grapenuts
  • salt and pepper
  • soy sauce
  • crackers (Kashi TLC are my favorite; I go through about a box of these a week)
  • mac & cheese (I like the Annie's microwavable kind)
  • peanut butter
  • Nutella
  • cheddar cheese
  • ginger snap cookies

Kitchen Supplies

  • small cutting board
  • paring knife
  • scissors
  • silverware
  • can opener
  • measuring spoons/cups
  • Tupperware
  • French press (easier than a coffee maker)
  • shot glasses
  • cereal bowls
  • sponge and soap
  • straws
  • electric kettle
  • bottle opener/wine opener
