A Sandwich A Day: Crispy Chicken at Local 127 in Cincinnati

In this great nation of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the country. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

I don't remember ever having a meal at Local 127 that was less than fantastic. The restaurant used to serve only dinner, but when they switched locations to their current spot on Vine Street, they began serving lunch as well.

This gave us another opportunity to try more from chef Steven Geddes's "New American eatery with an emphasis on quality local sourcing," including this crispy chicken sandwich ($12.25) available at lunch. Lightly breaded, juicy chicken cutlets combine with slightly sweet crunchy pickles, lettuce, and lemon mayonnaise between a buttered and deeply-toasted eggy, brioche bun. The sandwich is served with Parmesan sprinkled fries and housemade ketchup that still manages to be the right ketchup consistency.

I found myself craving another one of these later that evening. The pickles and mayonnaise aren't overpowering, so the two stars of the sandwich—the crispy chicken, and the pillowy, rich bun—really shine. While you're there, don't miss the several craft beers on tap, ranging from Belgian brews to a rye IPA.
