Ahh, baseball season. That magical time of year when you muster all of your San Francisco pride and don Halloween colors. When you prepare to shout, "GIGANTES!" with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old. When you layer up for the biting chill of night games and pray for sunshine during the day games. As a lifelong Giants fan, suffice it to say I'm ready. Having sat through a number of seriously cold games at Candlestick Park, I'd like to say that I've earned my fan-stripes, or at least my right to yell loudly despite not knowing every little detail of this year's roster.
My love for Candlestick remains (thank goodness that 'Monster Park' iteration was short-lived), but I'm a huge fan of AT&T Park. It's ridiculously easy to get to (from both in the city and down in the 'burbs), the cheap seats have a gorgeous view, and it's a whole lot warmer.
The park has some great food choices inside its palm-tree lined walls, too. But perhaps most significantly, it's in San Francisco, meaning there are all kinds of good eating options that don't necessarily include the parking lot (not that tailgating is something to sniff at).
The SOMA neighborhood really does step up to the plate (sorry, had to) when it comes to a delicious, and varied selection of game day food. Whether you're looking for the best sandwiches, pizza, burgers, or sit-down beers before or after the game, here are our favorite spots, all within blocks of the ballpark.
